Lymphoedema can develop slowly. You might not even be aware it is happening until you look down and see your limb is significantly swollen. By this stage, it might never return to normal.

Lymphoedema occurs because nodes are removed or damaged and your lymph fluid, that normally helps carry away dead cells and bacteria, stays in the limb, causing severe swelling and increasing your chances of infection.
